The landmine is pound-for-pound the most versatile and cost-effective training tool you can add to a home gym. For as little as $30, you unlock dozens of exercises that train pressing, pulling, rotation, and lower body in ways that barbells and dumbbells can't replicate. The arc-of-motion the barbell creates through the pivot point provides a natural, joint-friendly path for many movements.

Setup Options

You don't need a fancy setup to start landmine training. Here are the options from cheapest to most polished.

  • Corner of a room — Free. Wedge the barbell into a corner and go. Wrap the end in a towel to protect your walls.
  • DIY pipe fitting
0-15. A heavy-duty pipe flange bolted to a piece of plywood. Works perfectly.
  • Rack-mounted landmine — $30-50. Bolts to your power rack upright. Most stable and convenient option.
  • Plate-mounted landmine — $40-80. Sits on the floor weighed down by a plate. Portable and works anywhere.

Essential Landmine Exercises

These exercises represent the core movements that make the landmine indispensable. Master these before exploring the dozens of variations available.

  • T-bar row — Straddle the bar and row with a V-handle. One of the best exercises for mid-back thickness. Load it heavy.
  • Landmine press — Press the bar from shoulder height. The arc path is easier on shoulders than vertical pressing. Can be done standing or kneeling.
  • Meadows row — Stand perpendicular to the bar and row with one hand. Named after bodybuilder John Meadows. Incredible lat stretch and contraction.
  • Landmine rotation — Hold the end of the bar and rotate side to side. Builds rotational core strength essential for athletes.
  • Landmine squat — Hold the bar at chest height and squat. The counterbalance helps maintain upright posture. Great for beginners learning squat mechanics.
  • Landmine Romanian deadlift — Single-leg or bilateral. The arc path provides a unique stretch on the hamstrings and glutes.

Landmine Handle Attachments

While you can grip the barbell sleeve directly, dedicated handles improve comfort and expand exercise options. A T-bar row handle (
